Poster Contest

Each year, young artists show their ‘outdoor side’ Iowa Wildlife Federation poster contest.

In 2010, with the open ended theme, “When I’m Outside I….”, winners in Grades 1
through 6 illustrated their favorite outdoor activities; ‘Watching the River’, playing in the
snow and enjoying everything from butterflies to pelicans. The winning entries were a mix
of full color drawing, family photos and various animals in the outdoors.

Winners in each grade receive a trophy from the Iowa Wildlife Federation and have their
creations go up on the IWF website Poster Wall.

“We wanted to emphasize getting outdoors, so we asked kids to show us what they like to
do outside”, explains Loren Forbes, IWF Vice-President. “Studies show that young people
who spend more time outside are healthier, have better attention spans and do better in the
classroom.”
